2017 recap (so far)

I miss blogging.  I miss typing up anything that was on my mind and being (mostly) free from judgement.  This was my comfort zone, my place to vent, my sacred nook in the world wide web.  I may pick it back up again but then life happens and I'm gone for long stretches.  My blog is never far from my thoughts.

We're quickly approaching the end of yet another year.  2017 was such a wonderful year for us.  We went to Disney World, Carter completed Kindergarten and started 1st Grade.  Maya has started Preschool.  Jason has been elected Education Chair within his local union.  I was promoted at work to Head of Support.  So many wonderful things!

Disney -

We had SUCH an amazing time!  We went in May while Jason was on shut down at work.  While Jason and I have both been to Florida a few times, this was our first trip to Disney World and the kids first trip on an airplane.  Unlike their mother they absolutely LOVED the airplane ride!

We stayed at the Port Orleans Riverside Disney Resort.  When we arrived there were gifts from the ever infamous mouse couple waiting for the kids.

Even as adults Jason and I had such an amazing time. I am so incredibly thankful that we had the means to take them. I literally am looking into planning our second trip and hope to take them back as much as we can financially afford to.  I hope they treasure those memories for years to come!

10 year anniversary -

We went up the coast of Lake Huron to a fabulous B&B in East Tawas (the birthplace of my Grandmother) for our anniversary.  We spent the entire weekend with the lake outside our door.  It was perfect and definitely hope to make it a year thing.

 Halloween -

Maya has chosen Wonder Woman and Carter, Kylo Ren.  We have quite a few events lined up for the kids including Halloween at school, Jason's union, and the zoo.  More pictures to come.

Long time, no post.

It's been well over two years since my last blog entry.  I came back to my blog to find out that my domain is stolen so I switched back to a free blogger web address.  I'm not sure that I will keep my posting or not but thought it would be nice to give everyone, especially those who followed us for years on our journey, a nice update.

The kids -

Carter is 5 going on 6. He started kindergarten in September.  He had a rough start emotionally but has blossomed and has made some wonderful friends.  He loves his teachers and his school.  We enrolled him into a Montessori Public school in our local school system and we have been so fortunate to find some an amazing opportunity for him.  He's already starting to read!!  Wasn't he born yesterday?

Maya is 3 going on 4!  She has been potty trained for some time now thankfully (yay, no more diapers!!)  She had a hard time adjusting to brother being in school as well but now appreciates the alone time with the toys at home ;)  We are going to look into enrolling her into Preschool this fall at Carter's school.

Jason and I -

We are doing great!  We are celebrating our 10 year anniversary this year with a family trip to Walt Disney World while Jason is off work for a month in May.  We are going to be putting our house on the market in the next year or two and hope to either buy new or build our next home.

I hope you all are doing well.  If you are in the beginning stages of TTC, pregnant after loss, in the raw beginning of grief after losing a baby or hugging on your sunshine or rainbow babies, know that I am sending love and hope to each and everyone of you!

14 months

Dear Maya,

Sweet girl you are 14 months old today!  It's hard to believe that you were once this squishy little human weighing in at 8lbs 6oz and fit ever so perfectly onto my chest.

Today you can walk the entire length of the hallway.  You are growing into this fantastic little independent toddler and you amaze me every day.

You light up our world and can literally turn any frown upside down!

I can't wait to see you hit more milestones!

The flu has hit

I naively thought the flu would pass us by this year like it did last year.   I was sadly wrong.  It started with Jason getting a cold.  Then a week later I had the full blown flu complete with body aches, chills and a 102* fever.  Not to mention a sore throat and runny nose.  The really crappy part was that I was on my third day working.  Thankfully I work for an awesome team who let me take the rest of the day off on Wednesday.  I triedbsel medicating by taking some over-the-counter cold flu meds.  That took the edge off my symptoms but I was still miserable.
By yesterday I was had lost my voice.  Today I woke up not feeling any better so I made the trip to the urgent care.  The Dr said that I have a the seasonal flu with a lovely side of laryngitis.  Just my luck!
I was sent on my way with a script for Tamiflu and to rest and drink lots of fluids.  Hard to rest when I have a very active one and three year old and a husband on third shift.  Needless to say we are watching a lot of tv while I sit on the couch and try to rest as best as possible.
I'm hoping it doesn't turn into the stomach flu.  With one bathroom and four people ... you can imagine how disastrous that would be.

Back to work

I've had the luxury of being a stay-at-home mom for over a year now.  I was able to be home with Maya during her first year of life, something that I so desperately wanted to have with Carter but it just wasn't in the cards for us.  I owe it to my devoted husband who has worked his butt off to allow me to stay home with the kids this past year and I am so incredibly thankful.

Without going into too much detail, the need for me to get back to work has increased a bit and I have thankfully found another work from home position.  I start tomorrow!

Unlike my last work-at-home job I won't be tied to a phone all day.  My position will be 95% e-mail and around 5% on the phone.  Which means that I will be able to take my work with me.  So if I need to step out I can answer e-mails via my smartphone.  My training will be around a week or two and then two weeks of me getting into a routine and then I should be good after that so thankfully both of my parents and a friend of ours will be able to help me out with the kids for the next month.

So while I will be working full-time I still will be able to stay at home with my kids.  I consider myself to be incredibly fortunate that I found this position. I just hope it all pans out.
